Milwaukee's first bike-share kiosk now up and running

MILWAUKEE (WITI) --  The city of Milwaukee unveiled its first bike-share kiosk on Monday, July 8th. It can be found at the Discovery World museum on the city's lakefront.

“I do believe once this gets up and running, employers, businesses, foundations, individuals, will really see the value of what we are doing here,” said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

The “B-Cycle” bikes are available for rent from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. for $8 an hour and $5 for each additional half-hour through credit card purchase.

In all, Midwest BikeShare Inc., which operates the kiosks, plans to install 25 bike rental kiosks and have available some 250 bike share bikes throughout Milwaukee by March 2014.

Officials with Midwest BikeShare Inc. say the opening of the Discovery World location is a huge step towards the full launch of the system.

“The role that it has is not only transportation but to get people into the community and to see their neighbors and be able to say hello and not in the box of car is really important,” said Bruce Keys with Midwest BikeShare Inc..
