Mitchell Intl. Airport launches campaign touting non-stop flights

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee's Mitchell International is working to draw more people to the state's largest airport by launching a $50,000 ad campaign aimed at educating local travelers about their flying options, and where to find them.

Many people visit discount travel sites such as Expedia or Travelocity when booking flights, but General Mitchell wants travelers to know there are other options available.

"We hear people say things like 'oh I wish we still had non-stop flights to Seattle,'" said Pat Rowe, Spokeswoman for General Mitchell International Airport. "They don't realize that we do have non-stop flights to those cities but they don't show up on Orbitz or Expedia or Travelocity. The only place to find those flights is at Southwest.com."

Rowe says Southwest is now Milwaukee's largest carrier, flying non-stop to twenty destinations. You can only find their flights on the Southwest website. The goal of the airport's campaign is to make sure local travelers are aware of that.

"People need to know what their options are. They need to be sometimes reminded what their options are because you want to have options," said frequent flier Karen Elliot.

The ad campaign is set to run locally for about six weeks.
