"When I was younger, I never had a pro come back and put on a camp," he said. "We’re not going to change everybody – not going to make anybody into (Lionel) Messi today – but hopefully we can set them on the track."

"Seeing the local kid make good and come back is fantastic," said parent Roy Henning.

Youth soccer clinic

Saturday's clinic was focused on boys from 9 to around 12 years old. Farrington pushed the young athletes to be their best through motivation and words of encouragement.

"I really liked having to play with a professional soccer player that my mom told me about," player Alex Mencia said.

"Kind of like inspirational stuff to inspire you," said player James Henning.

The players knew clinics like Saturday's don't happen every day. Farrington hoped it would help the kids – and the sport.

"I think overall, I want the soccer culture in Wisconsin to grow. I know there’s plenty of other people in Wisconsin who want the same thing," Farrington said.

Farrington said his goal is to score more this year and help FC Dallas win the MLS Cup.
