Mother accused of OWI: Young children injured after crash Sunday night

DODGE COUNTY (WITI) -- Dodge County Sheriff's officials say a 28-year-old Waupun mother was arrested on Sunday, June 8th -- accused of operating while intoxicated with her children in the vehicle.

Dodge County Sheriff's officials on Sunday night, just before 9:00 p.m., responded to a crash on State Highway 68 near Laurel Hill Road in the Town of Trenton.

Sheriff's officials say the vehicle that had been traveling eastbound on State Highway 68 failed to negotiate a curve, and lost control -- coming to rest in the north ditch.

The 28-year-old driver was uninjured.

The woman's children, a four-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to the Dodge County Detention Facility -- and will appear before a judge in the near future.

“It is disturbing that a parent would choose to drive impaired with two young children in the vehicle, putting their children’s lives at risk.  Thankfully the injuries were not severe and that no other vehicles were involved," Dodge County Sheriff Patricia Ninmann said.
