MILWAUKEE -- A motorcyclist died from injuries suffered in a crash on southbound I-894/41 on Thursday morning, Aug. 15.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says the wreck happened shortly after 11 a.m. approximately one mile north of W. National Ave. According to a witness statement, a second vehicle merged into the right-most lane in front of the motorcyclist, forcing it into the distress lane. The motorcyclist struck a construction barrel and was ejected. The motorcycle continued southbound before striking the freeway barrier.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and performed emergency life-saving measures until the arrival of West Allis Fire Department medical units. The motorcyclist, a 64-year-old man, died from his injuries.
Officials say the operator of the vehicle, which had merged into the right-most lane, remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation and submitted to a voluntary blood draw at an area medical facility.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office shut down all southbound lanes of I-894 to allow medical vehicles to arrive -- and for the investigation to be completed. All southbound lanes were reopened around 2:30 p.m.
An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.
