MOUNT PLEASANT -- A Racine County teen is recovering after a hit-and-run crash in Mount Pleasant. The boy, 15, was airlifted by a Flight for Life helicopter with serious injuries Friday night, Feb. 16.

Mount Pleasant police responded to the area of State Highway 31 (South Green Bay Rd.) and Castle Ct. just before 9:30 p.m. Officials said the teen was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street with a group of friends.

Those in the area said it is a busy stretch of roadway that is poorly lit.

"It is very hard to see. You have to be looking out," said Andrea Jorgensen, Allure Hair Designs owner.

Jorgensen said Green Bay Rd. is very busy and there are no sidewalks and it isn't lit up very well.

"I'm not that surprised," said Jorgensen. "I do think the lighting is a difficult situation."

Mount Pleasant police said because of the darkness, witnesses weren't able to get a good look at the driver or the vehicle. The only information they could share was that it was a small car.

Investigators are hoping someone knows something and the driver comes forward.

"Hopefully they'll turn themselves in for that family," Jorgensen said.

We're told the victim was taken to Children's Hospital in stable condition. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to give Mount Pleasant police a call.
