MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police have identified a 71-year-old woman who was killed when she and her husband were hit by a car on Highway 20 in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday, September 29th -- and provided an update on her husband's condition. The deceased is identified as Ulla Theuer. Her husband, 74-year-old Otto Theuer, is in the ICU at Froedtert Hospital with head trauma. He was taken there by Flight for Life after initially being transported to Wheaton hospital following the crash. Otto Theuer is listed in critical condition at Froedtert.
Crash scene in Mount Pleasant
The crash happened around 3:00 p.m. on Highway 20 near Sunnyslope Road. FOX6 News has learned the Theuer's had visited a car dealership in the area, for service to their vehicle. They were then attempting to cross the street to visit the McDonald's restaurant in the area while waiting for their car to be serviced. The driver of the striking vehicle is a 44-year-old Mount Pleasant man. He was not injured, and is cooperating with investigators. By 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, the scene was cleared, and the striking vehicle was towed away -- but for those at Racine Toyota, who spoke with the man and woman just prior to the incident, it will take time to fully recover. We're told the intersection near Highway 20 and Sunnyslope Drive is a dangerous one because there is no clear crosswalk and traffic speeds through quickly. The investigation into this incident is ongoing -- and the Wisconsin State Patrol's "Recon Unit" is assisting with the investigation.
