MPD: 19-year-old woman arrested in downtown burglary; suspected in several similar crimes
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police arrested a suspect wanted in a downtown burglary and believe she could be responsible for several other similar crimes.
District One officers responded to the 900 block of E. Wells Street for a report of a burglary around 7:20 p.m. on December 27. The victim, a 29-year-old Milwaukee woman, told officers the suspect entered her apartment and stole her cell phone.
Officers in the area saw a woman who matched the suspect’s description and stopped her. The suspect had the victim’s cell phone on her and her purse was full of items stolen from several apartments in the 1600 block of N. Prospect Avenue in the prior days.
The suspect, a 19-year-old woman, was taken into custody and officers are determining whether the suspect could be responsible for other similar burglaries in the area.
MPD will present the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days for charges.
