MPD officer assaulted Monday night



MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee police officer on Monday, August 26th was involved in a physical fight when officers tried to speak with suspects who were acting suspiciously in the 2800 block of W. Auer.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to MPD, Officer Dwain Monteilh  attempted to stop one suspect, identified as 24-year-old Tory Johnson and Officer Roy Hom attempted to stop 18-year-old Keandre Johnson when both suspects began to physically fight with the officers.

During the struggle, Tory Johnson struck Officer Monteilh several times in the face -- and attempted to take his gun, according to police.

The officers were able to call for help, and both suspects were eventually taken into custody.

Officer Monteilh was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries, including a broken orbital and bleeding behind the eye.

Officer Monteilh is 43 years old and has 15 years of service with MPD.

Police say Johnson has a lengthy arrest record with MPD, including for carrying a concealed weapon, battery, and domestic violence.
