MU president says "we're getting pretty close" in effort to add grocery store near campus

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University officials are looking to add a grocery store near campus.

Marquette University President Michael Lovell says a grocery store is the "highest priority" for the campus.

MU is partnering with the Near West Side Partners Inc. -- a neighborhood coalition working to bring a grocery store to Milwaukee's west side.

"We’re getting pretty close and we’re getting fairly serious with two different supermarkets. I will say that it will be in the New West Side and it will be very accessible to students," Lovell said, speaking in one of his Fireside Chat question-and-answer sessions.

The eventual goal is to bring a store to the area north and west of the MU campus.
