Nearly $62,000 raised at 8-Twelve Restaurant Azana fundraiser

BROOKFIELD —SURG Restaurant Group hosted a sold-out benefit Monday evening, November 12th for the children of victims of the mass shooting at Azana Salon & Spa. An organizer of the fundraiser told FOX6 News Tuesday they were able to raise nearly $62,000 -- with a goal of $30,000.

Three women were killed, another four wounded, when Radcliffe Haughton walked into the spa on Sunday morning, October 21st and opened fire. Haughton later turned the gun on himself.

Monday night, the 8-Twelve Restaurant was filled with people hoping to make a difference in the lives of the children left behind.

"I'm from Brookfield. I've visited Azana spa, and I know many of the people who go to the salon, and it's just a tragedy," Leslie Stollverg said.

The benefit fundraiser was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 8-Twelve Restaurant.

"We sold out our tickets in one day. 250 tickets -- and continued to receive calls all week long," 8-Twelve General Manager Eric Kaye said.

Tickets were $100 and included food stations and beverages.

A silent auction showcased items donated by Ryan Braun, Aaron Rodgers, the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Wave, Kohls Department Stores and more.

Organizers hopes to raise $30,000 through the ticket sales and silent auction. 100% of the money raised will go to the children of the victims of the mass shooting -- Zina Haughton, Cary Robuck and Maelyn Lind.

"They need support, and I'm here to support them," Mike Schmeling said.

At a restaurant that can boast Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Braun as partners, there was no shortage of sports memorabilia up for auction. The restaurant's manager said it was Rodgers who got the ball rolling for the benefit.

"We're greatly affected. It's right down the road and Brookfield is a small community that likes to get together, so definitely we wanted to jump on board and reach out and help the children of the families of this tragedy," Kaye said.
