Need is "definitely significant:" Hunger Task Force's blue donation boxes out for the season
SHOREWOOD (WITI) -- While making her weekly trip to the grocery store, Carli Sanders put a couple extra items in her grocery cart after noticing the Hunger Task Force's blue donation boxes are back out for the season.
"I think it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and I like teaching my son to do nice things for people in need," said Sanders.
More than 30 Pick 'n Saves in southeastern Wisconsin received the donation boxes for its Food For Families program.
"Having to worry about whether you can have three meals with your family is not something that we're okay with. These donations are making sure that those families don't have to worry about whether there is food on the table," said Hunger Task Force Director of Development Scott Marshall.
The Hunger Task Force is looking for non-perishable food donations in the boxes, which will be out now through December 31st.
With the holidays around the corner, the need this time of year is always great.
"Our pantries are seeing about 35,000 - 36,000 visits per month and our soup kitchens and our homeless shelters are serving a little over 60,000 meals per month. So the need is definitely significant," said Marshall.
As Sanders adds her donation to the box, she's glad she can show her son the importance of giving through actions instead of just words.
Along with donating food, you can make a monetary donation to the Hunger Task Force's Food For Families program.
Beginning Monday, November 10th the Hunger Task Force will extend its office hours to accommodate increased holiday donations through the end of the year. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday; and 9:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday.
The Hunger Task Force is located at 201 S. Hawley Court in Milwaukee. Volunteers assist throughout the season and will help unload donations behind the building at Dock 1.
