GERMANTOWN -- Friday's rain comes as a relief for many after a week of hot, dry weather.

Just as the grass was staring to turn yellow, and the plants starting to wilt, showers gave many homeowners' thirsty yards a reprieve from the heat.

"I need the rain," said Shirley Nigbur.

Shirley Nigbur spends every afternoon watering her dozens of colorful flower pots.

"I like red geraniums," said Nigbur.

Nicknamed, "The Flower Lady," around the neighborhood, Nigbur says it's been difficult to keep up with the daily maintenance without help from Mother Nature.

"They go all the way around the house. I'm getting older. I'm 73 now, it's a little hard," Nigbur said.

Farmers' crops have also suffered during this summer's unusually dry weather.

"I cannot remember a significant rainfall since sometime in June,"Henry Kiesow, Franklin farmer.

Henry Kiesow grows vegetables in Franklin. He's banking on at least an inch of rain Friday afternoon.

"It would make such a difference, well, on the field crops and we rent out a lot of our land for cash crop for corn," said Kiesow.

When it comes to Wisconsin, those who depend on the weather know nothing is ever certain.

"It's the biggest gamble. It's bigger than Vegas to gamble on farming. You have to really love it," said Kiesow.
