Neighbors "heartbroken" elderly couple involved in murder/attempted suicide
OAK CREEK (WITI) -- Oak Creek police say a woman was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence on W. Wayland Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, April 16th. Her husband was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Police say this incident is being investigated as a murder/attempted suicide.
Police have identified the woman as 75-year-old June Lang. Her husband has been treated for his injuries and medically cleared. He is in custody.
Oak Creek police say a 911 call came in just before 2:00 p.m. from a man who indicated he had shot his wife and himself -- and his wife was not breathing.
Upon officers' arrival, police say the man walked out of the residence and surrendered. The woman was found dead inside the home.
"I don't know what caused it. From one end of our block to the other end, it was blocked off. We'd just seen police cars coming and going. You wouldn't expect this from them. You really wouldn't. It was sad. They were very, very good neighbors. I couldn't ask for better neighbors. They were very nice, sweet people," neighbor Bill Weber told FOX6 News.
Neighbors say the husband was in poor health and at times, in pain.
"I know he was worried about if he'd go first," Weber said.
"It is very heartbreaking. They were elderly, but they were very supportive of each other," neighbor Leah Hudson said.
"My heart goes out to the family -- and there's two children in the family so," Weber said.
