Virgil Thew

The Juneau County Sheriff's Office on Thursday said Virgil Thew – the man charged and wanted for three counts of first-degree intentional homicide – has been taken into custody.

Thew was arrested in the city of Elroy, roughly 13 miles southwest of New Lisbon, where three people were found dead in a home on Dec. 30.

Police said 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba was found dead along with two girls, ages 12 and 13. A criminal complaint said all three were found shot during a search for the girls, who had been missing.

Searches for Thew

Last week, police said there had been two confirmed sightings of Thew in the New Lisbon area. However, after extensive searches, he had not been found and was believed to be out of the area.

Law enforcement asked anyone who saw Thew not to confront or approach him – and to call 911. He was considered armed and dangerous.

The New Lisbon Police Department said they are continuing to follow up on any leads and tips provided. Anyone with information is asked to call the Juneau County Sheriff's Office at 608-847-5649 or email Det. Shaun Goyette.
