New technology allows you to know where your bus is at all times

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) has just launched a new program that will allow bus riders to check the status of buses in real time.

“We try to make transit as easy as possible. This provides new convenience for our customers, to know exactly where your bus is at all times, so if it is running behind or there’s bad weather, whatever it is, you’ll know exactly where it is. You can sit and finish your coffee up and not go to the bus stop and wait for the bus. You can wait in your office, at your home, wherever you are, and then you can go out when you see your bus is coming," Jacqueline Janz with MCTS said.

Janz explained that another perk of the program is how many formats that information can come in.  Riders can look it up on their smartphones, they can receive text alerts, call, or look it up on their computer.

This new convenience is something daily riders are looking forward to trying out.

“I pretty much run the same route, but every once in a while I have to jump to another bus so that would be nice, if you’re on the bus and you can, you know, look at it,” said Mark Senfleben.

When you go to the website, you`ll have two choices. You can get estimated arrival times in a table format or you can get a bus location map.

You will also notice that right now, there is only one route to click on- Route 21. The hope is to get all 59 routes up and running over the next few months.

MCTS officials are reminding riders that this is just a beta test, and they encourage feedback.
