Nicolet H.S. cancels pep rally over "possible disruption"
GLENDALE -- Nicolet High School cancelled its homecoming pep rally set for Friday afternoon, September 21st because of "possible disruption" that could have occurred at the rally.
In a letter than went home to parents, the cancellation was explained as follows:
"Due to information we received regarding a possible disruption at this afternoon’s pep rally, and after reviewing this information with the Glendale Police Department, the decision was reached to cancel the 1:30 pm pep rally."
The district superintendent tells Fox 6 there has been vandalism and threats at the school in recent days.
On Wednesday night, offensive graffiti was sprayed onto the press box above the football field. Then overnight Thursday, someone threw the swim coach's laptop into the pool. Someone also left a mannequin with a noose around its neck in a courtyard outside the principal's office.
Students say the vandalism stems from an incident at the school on Wednesday. Several senior students dressed up for homecoming week festivities according to their own theme, 'LaX bros and preppy hoes.' The official theme for the entire school that day was 'pajama day.'
"We supposed to dress like they went to a Catholic school or something. The administration did not like the name or how the girls were dressed," said Faith Moore, a Nicolet senior student.
Students say some of the girls were forced to change their clothes and the student council president was disciplined.
Officials say all other homecoming activities will proceed as planned. Parents and alumni arriving at the homecoming football game notice an increase in police presence. They expressed their dismay over the recent vandalism and threats.
"I didn't realize it would ever escalate to this level. I was totally shocked. It's nothing I would have ever expected to happen in our school,"
said Kymberlee Rosen, a Nicolet parent.
