Reports of shots fired on freeway

MILWAUKEE -- Detectives with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office found no evidence of gunshots being fired on I-43 just north of downtown Milwaukee Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Officials said witnesses reported hearing three shots fired on the freeway, on I-43 southbound at Fond du Lac Avenue -- and saw a vehicle strike the median wall.

"It's shocking, but you should never be shocked these days," said a woman who lives near the freeway.

Traffic was diverted off the freeway from 12:40 p.m. until 2:10 p.m. so investigators could search for and preserve potential evidence. Detectives found no evidence of bullet casings, and there were no "ShotSpotter" alerts.

"It's senseless violence. That's all I have to say," the woman said.

Again -- traffic was tied up Tuesday afternoon, but the scene has cleared.
