RACINE (WITI) -- An investigation continues into a shooting that family members say left a 15-year-old girl with a bullet in her cheek. It happened on Tuesday, March 10th near West Street and Wilson Street in Racine.

Destiny Finch

Rena Snow is a family friend of 15-year-old Destiny Finch.

"My heart dropped. That's just too close. She`s the average kid that deserves to have a good life and don`t deserve to have to come out her house and get shot," Snow said.

Family members say Finch, a Park High School freshman was outside her home around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when two groups of unidentified people got into an argument. A bullet struck Finch in her face.

"Our investigators are looking at several different scenarios and options," Racine Police Lt. Al Days said.

Lt. Days says Finch wasn't the intended target in this incident.

"It is still an active, on-going, fluid investigation. We have not taken anyone into custody at this time, but we are following every lead," Lt. Days said.

Lt. Days says leads began coming in the hours following the shooting.

"They did a neighborhood canvass. They talked to witnesses. They talked to people in the area that might have seen that event occur," Lt. Days said.

Lt. Days says investigators are gathering different accounts of what may have led to the shooting that occurred in a neighborhood where Snow says young people need more positive attention.

"Let them know that somebody do love them. There`s things that they can be doing out here, besides taking each other lives," Snow said.

Family members tell FOX6 News Destiny Finch will have the bullet removed on Friday. She is expected to fully recover.
