"Not all big dogs are dangerous!" Police find pit bull extremely friendly; help reunite him with owner
ARLINGTON, TEXAS (WITI) -- What do you think when you see a pit bull? Do you assume the dog is friendly -- playful even? Well, not everyone would agree.
Police officers in Arlington, Texas were flagged down by some folks while they were responding to another call.
They flagged police down -- worried a pit bull in the area was vicious.
But officers found the dog was anything but!
"He was friendly. He was more trying to make friends than hurt anybody," Arlington Police Sergeant Gary Carter said.
Carter and a fellow officer used a protein bar to lure the dog into their squad car.
Once the dog was in "custody" -- the officers turned to social media to find the dog's owner -- and got a remarkable response.
A post on Facebook on June 26th got more than 174,000 likes, and more than 70,000 shares!
“I’m glad that it had this response. Maybe people can realize that not all big dogs are dangerous and second, not all police officers are out there to shoot big dogs, because we’re not,” Carter said.
Luckily, this dog was microchipped -- and got to go home with his owner.
