Numerous crashes on area freeways Monday night as officials report icy conditions

MILWAUKEE/WAUKESHA COUNTIES (WITI) -- Law enforcement officials responded to numerous crashes throughout the freeway system on Monday night, April 14th.

Based on calls made by FOX6 News to area Sheriff's officials, it seems the majority of the incidents occurred in Milwaukee and the eastern part of Waukesha County.

Racine and Ozaukee county officials reported some spinouts and vehicles going off the road -- but no major accidents. Washington and Kenosha county officials said they didn’t have any accident reports to speak of, and a sergeant with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said they had no reports of icy conditions on the roadways.

In Waukesha County, however, deputies responded to seven accidents involving injury, 15 accidents involving property damage, and 13 calls for vehicles in the ditch.

The crashes seemed to begin a little after 9:00 p.m. Monday night. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office was reporting icy conditions on County freeways.

We saw cooler temperatures and some snow on Monday -- which led to wet roadways.

The initial crash occurred in the Hale Interchange around 9:15 p.m.

There, a Milwaukee County Sheriff's spokeswoman tells FOX6 News four vehicles were involved -- and two lanes had to be closed on the ramp to I-43 SB.

No one was hurt.

Another crash occurred on I-94 WB near Hawley. A Sheriff’s spokeswoman says a vehicle rolled four times.

It is unclear whether anyone was injured.

On I-43 WB near 60th Street, deputies were responding to a rollover crash. A Sheriff’s spokeswoman says a Jeep hit a vehicle in front of it — and that vehicle rolled.

We’re told one person suffered a broken finger.

Another crash occurred near the Town of Summit -- on I-94 EB near Highway P.

FOX6 News had a crew on the scene of a crash on U.S. 45 NB near Highway 100 in Milwaukee.

It is unclear whether anyone was injured.
