OAK CREEK -- Police in Oak Creek are not taking any chances at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. This, after a suspicious man was stopped, search and questioned.
"This was not a threat, this was someone who didn't use good judgment," said Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards on Friday, November 2nd.
Edwards says that scare at the Sikh Temple was halted by a new security plan implemented by his city.
"Things like this happen, it comes to our attention very quickly because of those things we've put in place," said Edwards.
Oak Creek Police and the Sikh community ramped up security following the mass shooting at the temple on August 5th.
On Sunday, the man parted outside of the temple raised some eyebrows. Temple security called police immediately. Not, a police report says officers found zip ties and duct tape in a bag the man had with him. Inside his car -- ammunition.
Police say the man explained the items were used for camping and he was driving across the country doing research for a book. The FBI was also called into investigate.
The man was eventually let go. But this incident is putting a spotlight on temple safety.
A Sikh leader tells FOX6 News the temple has invested more than $100,000 in the security plan. He would not disclose any details -- but says the plan is very elaborate.
