CALIFORNIA (WITI) -- A husband and wife from California have been sentenced to prison -- convicted of keeping their two young daughters locked inside their filthy mobile home for years without adequate food or basic care -- while they obsessively played the online computer game "World of Warcraft."
Louis Huffmire
FOX6's sister station KTLA reports Lester Louis Huffmire and his wife, Petra Huffmire pleaded guilty this month to two felony counts of child abuse, two misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment, one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor -- and sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury.
Lester Huffmire was sentenced to five years in prison. His wife, Petra was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
KTLA reports prosecutors say for three years, the couple kept their mobile home unsanitary and uninhabitable.
Investigators found kitchen appliances “covered in mold and cobwebs, stacks of trash, debris, mold, and feces throughout the home, a pile of used condoms under a stuffed teddy bear, and inoperable toilets" -- according to KTLA.
Petra Huffmire
KTLA reports both Lester and Petra Huffmire were unemployed -- and they apparently played World of Warcraft all day.
KTLA reports they didn't allow their children (ages 10 and five) out of their home for any reason -- even to attend school.
Police conducted a welfare check and discovered the children with dirt crusted on their feet, matted hair and damaged teeth. They were also found to be malnourished.
KTLA reports the children had never even seen grass before!
