Oconomowoc house fire; started in basement utility room

An Oconomowoc home was damaged by fire early Tuesday morning, Dec. 10. Crews were dispatched to a home on Road Q around 2:51 a.m. 

Residents of the home were awakened by smoke detectors and called 911 reporting their home was filling with smoke. 

When crews arrived at the scene, the residents and their two dogs had safely evacuated. 

Crews say the fire started in a basement utility room. The fire extended through the walls to the main level.

Residents were assessed for difficulty breathing and smoke inhalation by med units.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with the origin being at the furnace. 

Due to the size of the home and rural water supply, the incident was upgraded to a level 2 with mutual aid from the Hartland, Pewaukee, Ashippun, and Sullivan with change of quarters from the City of Waukesha, Watertown, Mukwonago, and Vernon.
