Officials: 13-year-old girl drowns in river at park in Racine
RACINE -- A 13-year-old girl drowned in the area of Island Park in Racine on Friday afternoon, August 26th.
Racine Police responded along with Racine Rescue to the area just before 4:00 p.m. Once on the scene, officers pulled the 13-year-old out of the river near the south baseball diamond. She was unresponsive at the time. Racine Rescue attempted to revive the girl, but attempts were unsuccessful.
Officials say their initial investigation shows the girl was playing with her nine-year-old cousin near the river. It is unclear on whether she jumped in the river or she fell in. But once the 13-year-old entered the river, she was submerged and her nine-year-old cousin left to find an adult to call for help.
There is nothing suspicious expected but the investigation is ongoing.
