BELOIT -- Authorities say an SUV pulled up alongside a car in southern Wisconsin and someone opened fire, killing a 5-year-old boy.
Police are searching for the person responsible for the Friday night attack in Beloit, a city 65 miles southwest of Milwaukee along the Illinois border. The Beloit Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1S1wEyt) that the boy who was riding in the back seat of his father's car was shot at least once in the abdomen and died at a hospital.
Interim Police Chief David Zibolski says the sport utility vehicle had been following the father's car. The chief didn't know if the father was the intended target, but says the father is cooperating with authorities.
He says investigators haven't determined how many shots were fired. The father was not hit.
