MILWAUKEE — Law enforcement agencies across the state will continue their drunk driving crackdown through the heavily-traveled Labor Day weekend. The program is part of a national initiative called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” and runs from August 17th to September 3rd.
Law enforcement officials say their goal is to deter drunken driving. Officials say they hope Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over will help motivate people not to drive drunk.
Authorities say law enforcement officers will be patrolling in greater numbers and for longer hours to arrest impaired drivers and get them off the road.
Last year alcohol-related crashes killed 225 and injured nearly 3,000 people in Wisconsin. Additionally, there were nearly 35,000 convictions for drunken driving in Wisconsin in 2011.
