Oklahoma day care employees accused of drugging infants to make them sleep

DURANT, OK -- A day care in Oklahoma is under investigation after officials believe the owner and her staff drugged children to make them sleep.

Bryan County Sheriff's Office Investigator, Jeff Wilson, tells KTEN that deputies took a closer look at Sue's Day Care after former employees admitted to giving infants Benadryl to help them sleep.

"They've come and confessed to what was going on in the day care and all stated that they were ordered to give this by the owner," said Wilson.

Beverly Sue Stair, owner of the child care, could now face abuse charges.

Unless ordered by a doctor, Benadryl should not be given to infants, health experts say -- the drug can cause the child to stop breathing.

Wilson says he expects to hand the case over to the district attorney by the end of the week. The day care cannot re-open until the investigation is complete.
