One day after attempted sexual assault, attempted strong armed robbery near UWM campus



MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- UW-Milwaukee police say an attempted strong armed robbery occurred near campus on Monday, April 20th -- and this crime occurred less than a block away from the scene of an attempted sexual assault that occurred early Sunday, April 19th.

Monday's incident happened just after 1:00 p.m. near E. Linnwood Avenue and N. Cramer Street.

The victim, a UWM student, was parking her vehicle in the 1900 block of E. Linnwood Avenue when she was approached on foot by three unknown suspects. One opened her vehicle's door and demanded she get out. The suspects then attempted to take the victim's vehicle using bodily force.

No weapons were applied or seen.

    The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating this attempted strong armed robbery and similar incidents around the East Side.

    In fact, police say two attempted robberies occurred around 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 20th -- one in the 2700 block of Murray Avenue and one in the 2200 block of Bellview Place. The victims (one in each incident) were not injured. It is believed two to three suspects are responsible for these incidents. It is unclear whether a weapon was displayed or implied.

    Police are working to determine whether all of these crimes may be connected.
