One dead, five injured following five separate shooting incidents
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating five separate shooting incidents that occurred Tuesday night, April 8th. Police say one person is dead and five people were injured as a result of the shootings. A Milwaukee Fire official says he believes a rise in temperature has led to a rise in violence.
"It is unusual for us to have so many shootings in a short period of time. All the different stresses that people have kind of come together out in the streets -- and (Tuesday) night was a classic case of that," Milwaukee Fire Department Deputy Chief Aaron Lipski said.
The first shooting incident occurred in the 1400 block of W. Greenfield around 9:15 p.m.
According to officials, a 55-year-old man was shot while seated in his residence. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to survive.
The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
Around 9:41 p.m, police say a 19-year-old male was shot by unknown suspects(s) as he was entering his vehicle near 27th and Nash.
Police say the victim then drove himself to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive.
The circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation. There are no suspects in custody.
The third shooting occurred just minutes later near 55th and Keefe. According to police, an 18-year-old and 17-year-old were shot around 9:45 p.m. Officials say the victims were injured, but are expected to be okay.
The circumstances are still under investigation, but appear to be drug-related.
The fourth shooting occurred in the 1500 block of S. Muskego Avenue around 10:46 p.m.
Police say a 51-year-old man was shot in his residence and was transported to the hospital for treatment. He is expected to be okay.
The circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation, there are no suspects in custody.
Milwaukee police are also investigating a homicide that occurred near 6th and Concordia at approximately 11:09 p.m.
According to police, a 48-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound and died at the scene.
There are no suspects in custody and police are continuing to investigate a motive.
Lipski says a fire engine and paramedic unit are dispatched with police when there is a critical shooting. He says when the weather gets warmer, his team plans for an increase in violence.
"We hope for the best. We prepare for the worst. Especially as the heat would get through the roof hot, tempers flare quick. Our mission is to save lives," Lipski said.
FOX6 News reached out to Milwaukee police for comment on what happened Tuesday night. A spokesperson says one night does not properly illustrate the realities of crime in Milwaukee.
