One dead, several injured in two-vehicle crash in Pleasant Prairie



PLEASANT PRAIRIE (WITI) -- One person is dead and several others were taken to the hospital following a serious two-vehicle crash at State Highway 165 and 120 in Pleasant Prairie Tuesday night, July 16th.

When officials arrived on the scene they located a black SUV in the intersection with heavy damage to the driver's side.

According to police, a four-year-old girl had been thrown from the vehicle and was face-up in the intersection. There were four additional occupants in the vehicle.

Officials say the 43-year-old driver was trapped in the vehicle and complaining of shoulder injuries, the front seat passenger, a 51-year-old female, had no injures. A 37-year-old woman who was riding In the back seat  on the driver's side sustained serious injuries. And the back seat passenger side occupant, a 10-year-old girl, sustained a cut to her hand.

Two Flight for Life helicopters were called to the scene and transported the 37-year-old woman and the four-year-old girl to the hospital. The 37-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Froedtert Hospital. The condition of the four-year-old girl is unknown at this time.

The second vehicle involved in the crash sustained heavy front-end damage and was located in the south lanes of State Highway 165 just east of the intersection. The lone occupant, a 39-year-old man from Bristol, did not sustain any injuries.

According to officials, a witness told police that the 39-year-old man passed them on the left, ran a red light and struck the SUV.

The 39-year-old man was taken into custody for homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.

No additional details have been released and the accident remains under investigation.
