One killed, five injured in crash on Highway 16 in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WITI) -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 16 near Seier Road in Fountain Prairie Township on Sunday, March 31st.

The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m.

Officials say a car traveling wesbound and an eastbound van collided nearly head-on -- causing the car to roll over, landing on it’s roof in the north ditch of Highway 16.  The male driver of that car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officials say there was another adult passenger along with a juvenile in that car and both were transported to the hospital.

There were three occupants in the van and all were transported to the hospital.

Officials say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, however, the accident remains under investigation.

Medical conditions of those injured are not available at this time.  Names are being withheld at this time.
