One person killed, six hurt in multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 41/45 in Germantown

One person is killed, another six hurt in a multi-vehicle wreck on Highway 41/45 just south of Holy Hill Rd. in Germantown. The wreck forces emergency crews to shut down the north and southbound lanes of the highway for hours.

The first call of the crash came in shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell told FOX6 News, the crash "appears to be a crossover situation."

Two semi tractor trailers and eight vehicles were involved in the wreck. Five people were taken to Community Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A sixth person was taken to Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries. Again, there was one fatal victim.

A hazardous material team was on the scene to clean up a large diesel gasoline spill.

While the highway was shut down, southbound traffic was routed off at Hwy. 167. It caused a massive backup which frustrated many drivers. "I thought it was just construction.  They had the left lane closed.  Then, next thing you know, all lanes were closed," said Michelle Leitner.
