"Operation Unlucky Charm" to be in operation this weekend

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Co. Sheriff David Clarke wants motorists to know about "Operation Unlucky Charm" which will be in effect this weekend. Its mission -- to stop drunk drivers.

"I'm giving you a chance today to pick a designated driver," said Sheriff Clarke Thursday. "Save your tears for court. See if it will convince a judge, because it does not convince us."

To stop drunk driving in southeast Wisconsin, law enforcement agencies from many communities are stepping up patrols this coming weekend. Officers will focus on the freeways -- and specifically I-94 from the lakefront all the way to the Waukesha County line.

Sheriff Clarke says people who plan to drink need to have a plan. He suggests the free bus rides with the Milwaukee County Transit System that are being supported by MillerCoors.

"We believe that drunk driving is completely preventable and using Miller Lite Free Rides is just one of the options available," said Clarke.

The Miller Liter Free Rides will be up and running from 6 p.m. Saturday until the end of regular service.

The Sheriff’s Office is partnering with other OWI task force members from police departments in Bayside, Cudahy, Franklin, Greendale, Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, St. Francis, Wauwatosa, West Allis, City of Brookfield, Town of Brookfield, Elm Grove and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
