Over the edge: Folks rappel down the side of Lambeau Field in Special Olympics fundraiser

GREEN BAY – Dozens of participants had the once in a lifetime opportunity to rappel down the side of Lambeau Field to benefit the Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

The event is a fundraiser for the organization. This is the fourth year it’s been held at Lambeau Field.

Participants needed to raise $1,000 in order to rappel.

As of Friday, August 8th about 80 people registered for the event.

Organizers say the goal is to raise $80,000 for the Special Olympics.

"Special Olympics is 100 percent free for the athletes.  So basically what that money does is the money that's used in the fundraising -- that goes back to the sports department so the athletes can compete in the 18 different events throughout the year and they can do all these things and not have to pay anything," Matt Harper with Special Olympics of Wisconsin said.

A few former Packers players were on hand for the event. Bill Schroeder, Tony Fisher and Dexter McNabb congratulated folks once they made it down.
