Packers fans "leaping" over new statue unveiled at Lambeau Field
GREEN BAY (WITI) -- A brand new statue outside Lambeau Field is proving to be incredibly popular with fans. You might even say it's "interactive."
The sculpture commemorates the first ever Lambeau Leap, taken by LeRoy Butler during a game against the Raiders in 1993. Since then, it's become a fan-favorite scoring tradition.
"I think it's more important than people realize, because you look around the 31 teams in the NFL, the Packers have something that they don't have -- a connection with the fans," said Butler.
Packers fans can take the leap themselves, right onto the bronze statue!
"It's pretty cool and fun to pose with it and everything, to take pictures," said fan Logan Van Somerin.
Butler and Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy unveiled the sculpture outside the new Packers Pro Shop Friday, August 2nd.
The statue is located just steps away from the famous Curly Lambeau and Vince Lombardi statues.
