SOUTH MILWAUKEE -- FOX6 News has learned Sikh Temple shooting gunman Wade Michael Page's ex-girlfriend, Brenda "Misty" Cook was also heavily involved with the white supremacist movement. Cook was taken into custody by police on tentative charges of being a felon in possession of a gun after officials reportedly discovered the weapon in Cook's apartment when questioning her following the shooting.
FBI Special Agent In Charge Teresa Carlson said during a media briefing Wednesday they believe Page acted alone in Sunday's shooting, and they do not believe Cook, nor the weapon found at Cook's home were in any way connected to the Sikh Temple shooting.
Cook's neighbors in South Milwaukee told FOX6 News Wednesday they believe Cook was released from police custody and may have left the state. A downstairs neighbor said Cook loaded her things into her mother's car and took off.
"We watch these groups because we are always worried about when ideology turns to action," Nasatar said.
Cook was a waitress at the Prime Table Family Restaurant just down the street from the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek.
FOX6 News has learned Page and Cook broke up about two weeks before the shooting.
