Panther pride: UWM fans get excited over new 1,200-pound mascot statue

MILWAUKEE -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and alumni unveiled a 1,200-pound statue to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Panther mascot.

The unveiling took place after the annual Panther Prowl 5K run on Saturday, October 10th.

The bronze statue, located in front of Enderis Hall, is 6-feet tall, 12-feet long and designed by UWM alum, Tom Queoff.

Two other alumni, Mark Martino and Mike Sponholtz, also helped with the creation of the statue.

"It's really important to know that this statue was not funded with any state resources. It was made possible by the support of alumni, friends and students who really wanted to share their Panther pride with future generations to come," said Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Relations, Adrienne Bass.

UWM first adopted the Panther mascot all the way back in 1965, when it was designed by graduate student, James Cheski.
