Fire at Smithfield Foods Patrick Cudahy plant

A machinery fire at the Smithfield Foods Patrick Cudahy plant sent one person to a hospital on Saturday morning, Jan. 4.

The Cudahy Fire Department said it was called around 7:30 a.m. for smoke on the plant's third and fourth floors. The sprinkler system contained the fire, which firefighters then fully extinguished.

One person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. The incident caused minor damage and had little impact on the facility's operations.

The Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, St. Francis and Oak Creek fire departments also responded to the scene.
