"People have to re-learn winter driving:" Greenfield emergency crews ready for first snowstorm

GREENFIELD -- If you can stay off the roads Friday night, you're probably better off. But those who have to work in the conditions are preparing for a busy night. And there's a stretch of road where firefighters know they'll respond to a high number of car accidents.

Hale Interchange

The Hale Interchange is a busy and tricky spot.

"Having the bypass and the interstates running through Greenfield, we'll end up going from literally accident to accident to accident," said Leiutenant Zach Zimmer, Greenfield Fire Department.

But Greenfield Firefighters know what to expect.

"People are going to follow too close, drive too fast, get into car accidents," said Zimmer.

At Superior Outdoor Services in Milwaukee, snow means a little chaos and a lot of business.

"The phone has been ringing off the hook," said Dan Frazin, Superior Outdoor Services owner.

They're ready to tackle everything from driveways to sidewalks.

Winter snow preparation

"It's not uncommon for the first snowstorm for people to be stopping by my house dropping contracts off at my door at seven, eight, or nine at night -- like make sure you get us done make sure you get us done," said Frazin.

Everyone is bracing for the first snowfall of the season.

"People just forget how to drive in the snow. People have to re-learn winter driving," said Zimmer.

If you are going to be out and about during the winter weather, here are a few things you should keep in your car:

Because first responders will be especially busy Friday night into Saturday, they want to remind you of the "Move Over Law" -- when an emergency vehicle is approaching from behind, pull over to the right and stop until it passes. If you see one stopped on the side of the road, you have to change lanes and drive by slowly.
