WHITEFISH BAY -- Students at Whitefish Bay High School want to take care of folks in neighboring communities and thanks to the 'Bay Gives Back' food drive, they're doing just that.
Whitefish Bay High School"This organization is able to help bring the community together," said Kristin Hirst, Whitefish Bay High School senior, co-founder of 'Bay Gives Back.' The community is stepping up for the group, 'Bay Gives Back.' "A week ago, we delivered a bag to every door in Whitefish Bay," said Hirst.
Bay Gives BackSaturday, October 24th dozens of Whitefish Bay High School students broke into teams and collected food bags from homes in the village. "Doing a food drive this time of the year is important. Things that we take for granted; food is something people don't have everyday," said Hirst.
Bay Gives Back"I volunteered at the Hunger Task Force and I see firsthand how many people need this," said Cole Miller, Whitefish Bay High School senior. Helping fulfill that need, though the goal is filling bellies, the students are also filling their hearts and spirits. "The idea that we can give back to people through food which other people need in other areas like downtown Milwaukee, is really satisfying for us to know we are helping like that and put a smile on their face when they get that meal," said Miller. Community members definitely rose to the occasion and it was bustling back at the Whitefish Bay High School gym to get the donations organized. "We are going to sort it and count it and take inventory of all the food that we have and then we are going to take it to Riverwest, and weigh it to get more of an exact count," said Hirst.
Bay Gives BackThe giving back doesn't end here -- this upcoming winter, the students will go to the Riverwest Food Pantry, volunteer and serve. This enables the students to actually interact with the people they are helping.
