Permanent custody granted for five children, left orphans after their parents were killed in a crash
GERMANTOWN (WITI) -- An attorney has confirmed with FOX6 News that Rebecca Sickler -- the aunt of five children orphaned when their mother and father were killed in a crash in April has been awarded permanent custody of the children.
37-year-old Joshua and 38-year-old Monica Griebel were killed in a one car accident on Highway 164 in the Village of Richfield on the morning of April 25th.
They've left behind five children -- ages 18 months to 13 years.
The children had been staying with Sickler -- their aunt on their father's side of the family, since the crash.
That aunt wanted permanent custody -- but so did a half-sister on the mother's side of the family, who lives in Florida.
Now, we've learned Sickler has been awarded permanent custody of the children -- and the half-sister has withdrawn her petition for custody -- the day a trial was set to begin.
