Plea for information: UW-Milwaukee police warn students in wake of attempted armed robbery

MILWAUKEE -- Students who attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are being alerted in the wake of an attempted armed robbery on campus early Wednesday, October 28th -- and police are working to determine whether two other armed robberies are connected.

According to UWM's website, an attempted armed robbery happened just after 2 a.m. on the exterior steps between the Chemistry Building and Lapham Hall. The suspect was armed with a shotgun and approached the student from behind. The suspect demanded property at which time the student fled from the area.

The student was not hurt and the suspect did not get any property. The suspect then fled southbound from the scene through the parking lot towards Kenwood Boulevard.

The suspect is described as a male, black, in his late teens or early 20s, about 5'10" tall, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing black pants, a black hoodie and possibly a dark-colored knit hat underneath the hoodie.

University police are working with the Milwaukee Police Department who are also investigating robberies that occurred near Oakland and Kenwood as well as along Locust Ave. near the Milwaukee River.

The Milwaukee Police Department has provided the following details on these incidents:

Milwaukee police investigated an armed robbery that happened on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at about 3:00 a.m. in the 3100 block of N. Oakland Avenue (near Oakland and Kenwood).  Two suspects approached the victim on foot, pointed a firearm, and took the victim’s property.

Milwaukee police investigated an armed robbery that on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at about 3:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of W. Hadley Street (near 26th and Hadley).   Two suspects exited a white four door Nissan possibly a Maxima, approached the victim and displayed a firearm.   One suspect took the victim’s vehicle.

Milwaukee police investigated a strong arm robbery that happened on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at about 2:05 a.m. in the 1300 block of E. Locust Street (near Locust and Humboldt).  Four suspects approached the victim from a vehicle, struck him and obtained his property.
