Police: 70-year-old driver killed when vehicle struck by train in Brookfield
Police investigate collision between train, pickup truck
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield police said a 70-year-old driver was killed when a vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train in the area of Brookfield Road and River Road late Monday afternoon, Feb. 18.
It happened around 4:15 p.m.
FOX6 News crews at the scene found the bumper of the vehicle lying in a snow bank next to the crossing. The stopped train was about a half-mile down the tracks, with more police cars.
Damon Gray got caught in traffic on his way into work as a dishwasher at Vino Cappuccino.

"The signals had come down and it was informing us that a train was nearby, on its way," said Gray.
Gray said the Amtrak operator blew the horn, but there was no time to stop.
"And then it just happened -- in a split second," said Gray. "I sat there in shock for about five minutes because I couldn't believe it. It just looked so unreal to me."
Police haven't identified the victim. An investigation is ongoing.
"I just feel sad for the family, the lady. My condolences go out to their whole family," said Gray.
