WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- Police agencies in Milwaukee and Waukesha County are coming together in a show of force -- to keep the roads safe from drunk drivers. Their mission is to stop drunk drivers before they get behind the wheel.
Officers will be focusing their efforts on major thoroughfares like Bluemound Rd -- where restaurant's like Mo's Irish Pub will draw lots of partiers.
On Saturday afternoon, March 16th, police from several communities held a roll call outside of Mo's. A Wauwatosa police lieutenant thanked officers for putting in extra hours during on this day. He told officers to stay safe -- especially those out looking for drunk drivers on the interstate.
Historically, St. Patrick's Day weekend is a very dangerous one to be on the roads. So police agencies have contacted bars like Mo's to make sure their customers have access to cabs and shuttles.
"We've seen a trend in Milwaukee County and in Waukesha County with wrong way drivers and we've certainly seen an increase in accidents over the last couple of years that were relate to alcohol and that`s what we want to prohibit," said Lt. Tim Sharpee of the Wauwatosa Police Department.
Mo's is just one business that has partnered with law enforcement -- and invited them to do those roll calls outside their doors. The owners expect people will drink more than they usually do. So they're going to be pushing food and water on patrons. They also plan to keep a constant stream of cabs outside.
