Police in Racine called out to scene of incident involving guns, possibly stolen property

RACINE -- Racine police were dispatched to the Haban Manufacturing Building near Northwestern Avenue and State Street on Thursday evening, July 28th for an incident involving guns, and possibly, stolen property.

The call came in shortly after 6:00 p.m.

For about two hours, the area was blocked off as police investigated with their guns drawn.

It was determined that there was a civil dispute between parties and shots were fired as a result of the incident. There were no injuries and nothing was struck, according to police.

A witness told FOX6 News he works in the area, and saw a man fire a gun. He said that man came to a building in the area with another man -- looking for property they said was stolen from their business.

That's when things became chaotic.

"A couple of guys showed up looking for stolen property. The guy that rents that space showed up with a shotgun, was trying to run them off. One of the individuals who was there looking for the stolen property ran upstairs and fired like four warning shots. It gets my attention. I come out raising hell about why are you shooting a gun here? I said 'I need the gun down, and I'll call the cops,'" Chuck Stiles said.

Stiles said he called 911 and police showed up.

Police say several parties were taken to the Racine Police Department to be interviewed. One person was arrested.

Officials say although the initial call for service came out as a possible hostage situation this was not the case.

No names are being released at this time.
