Oconomowoc bank robbery manhunt

A manhunt is underway after an armed bank robbery in Oconomowoc on Tuesday, June 29. The incident prompted the closure of I-94 westbound for a large portion of the day Tuesday.  

According to police, around 1 p.m. officers were dispatched for a possible robbery at an Oconomowoc bank. Prior to arrival, the suspect fled on foot. 

Shortly after, a second call into dispatch was received of a vehicle theft on S. Main Street. A short time later, a hold-up alarm was activated at Waukesha State Bank. It was later confirmed that the suspect matching the incidents was also involved in the bank robbery. 

The stolen vehicle was located by Summit police, who initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle crashed off the roadway on westbound I-94 near Golden Lake Road. The suspect fled on foot into a densely wooded area.

At Valley and Golden Lake Roads, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department blocked the streets, looking for the wanted man. On westbound I-94 in Waukesha County, officers in tactical gear carrying long guns searched the area.

Anthony Sprague was driving through the area for work when he shot video of the investigation. 

"They were tacted up," said Sprague. "Saw a couple of officers in command post vehicles looking at drone video. As I was going by, I saw a couple of drones up in the air. They had K-9s out in the woods searching.  They had officers on the overpasses, as well."

As the afternoon turned to night, the manhunt continued.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., the Oconomowoc police were notified that another vehicle theft occurred on Valley Road. It is believed the same suspect used this vehicle to flee the area. 

The wanted man suspect is described as white, 6' tall, heavyset, age 20-30, last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, bandana, and possibly barefoot.

The incident remains under investigation by the City of Oconomowoc Police Department.
