BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Brookfield police are investigating two recent incidents of possible attempted child enticement.
On Thursday, October 10th, three children were walking home from swim practice around 7:20 p.m. when an unknown silver sedan approached them near Gebhardt Rd. and Alverno Dr. The driver, a man approximately in his 70s, wearing glasses, a plaid shirt and having short white hair stated, "Come here, I want to help you." Once the man reached over and opened the passenger door, the children ran away,
The second incident apparently happened around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 12th, near Civic Dr. at Calhoun Rd. Two 12-year-old girls walking down the street were approached by an older white man in a silver car. He reportedly had gray hair and was unshaven. Police say the suspect mumbled something about a dog. The girls were frightened and fled to two different local businesses. The suspect apparently followed them for about two blocks.
Parents watching their children play football at Brookfield Central High School on Saturday were talking about the incidents among themselves.
Jennifer Potter said, "We just heard about it when we came to the game today for our 5th graders. The community is usually really good about keeping the parents informed and also the community of parents make it aware that there are some issues going on. So when we sat down, I told the kids right away that they'd be hanging out with us."
She added that while it was raining earlier in the day, her children were near the fire department overhang when Brookfield Police approached them and let them know about the situation.
Other parents said that they knew about Thursday's incident because of an email circulating in their neighborhood.
Because nobody has been caught, parents at the high school on Saturday said they were making sure to keep their children close and within view of them at all times. Also, they were talking to their kids about the importance of their safety.
"We've educated our kids for a lot of years with this. So in being younger grade school, it's just something that's an every day conversation going to the food store, going to the malls, anything. Our kids are very aware," Potter said.
Anyone with information about either of these incidents is urged to contact the City of Brookfield Police Department at 262-787-3702.
