Stabbing at UW-Parkside

KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department sent deputies to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Tuesday evening, April 9th for a report of a stabbing at the campus. The deputies responded to assist UW-Parkside police.

A neighbor who lives right next to the apartment where the stabbing happened says the student who was stabbed and his girlfriend were fighting.

"I guess there was a fight over a night so either she stabbed him or he got himself -- I'm not exactly sure," the neighbor said.

Other students described the scene outside after police arrived.

"I saw male on the ground cuffed laying flat on his face," one student said.

"Then they finally took them up onto the stairs right over there," another student said.

"They lifted up his shirt, looked at his stomach. I didn't know what they were looking for. First I thought they may have been searching him. Then I saw them apply gauze or napkins to his stomach," another student said.

Then, the man was reportedly taken away in handcuffs.

Late Tuesday evening, officials said a male suffered a self-inflicted stabbing injury -- but have not released any additional information at this time.
