Police investigating crash that killed cross-country biker

MADISON (WITI) -- Police are investigating a crash that killed a Wisconsin cross-country bicyclist.

25-year-old Chris Vogts was biking from Madison to New Orleans to meet friends when he was hit by a van on Friday night, February 8th in Mississippi.

Vogts completed many cross-country biking trips before, and was said to be an extremely safe biker.

"If you want to know the really sad part, the day that he died, he had biked, we figured, about 140 miles and was only five miles from his final destination when he was hit. That's probably the worst part," Vogts sister, Heather Vogts said.

Vogts left Madison on January 23rd, and was traveling solo.
